The IdeaLists

Frequently Asked Questions

What is The IdeaLists?top

The IdeaLists is a marketplace for top creative professionals and clients in marketing and media.

We provide:
- A platform matching creative needs with the best solutions
- A more open playing field for members looking to bridge industries and explore new opportunities
- A full suite of services to clients in need of idea execution and talent recruitment

Who is using this site? Is it some form of crowdsourcing platform?top

We make matches; we don't source crowds.

Our community is invite-only. Invites are provided to communications professionals that have proven portfolios of work at a national or international level. You can apply for membership through our homepage.

As opportunities in our marketplace range in value from a few hundred dollars to a few million dollars, we are very much a one-size-fits-all platform. Members range from freelancers all the way to global agencies.

Do you provide custom services?top

We provide three levels of service:

1 You post your need and find the best solution via members that express interest. This is free to members.
2 We craft your brief and match you with the best talent and solutions from our network. Then we step out of the way and let you get to work. For this service we charge a commission. Not unlike traditional agents, our commission is generally 10%. This fee is paid by project recipient, with no cost incurred by the client.
3 We provide all-in creative services: we craft the brief, provide the best solutions and oversee execution. Fees are based on scope of work.

How are transactions handled?top

Communications, negotiation and transaction should be handled directly between parties. Members can contact one another regarding specific postings through our internal messaging system (while keeping personal email addresses confidential).

Posts marked "Powered by IdeaLists" indicate projects overseen by our team. For these posts, we act as the conduit for all communications.

What is a Group and why would I use one?top

Groups allow you to share specifically with other IdeaLists members or invite in new members. Consider it your own virtual ideation and production dept.

We also provide custom services for clients wanting to use Groups to ensure added confidentiality, source new talent or create new sales networks.

How can I maintain confidentiality and protect my intellectual property?top

We do take steps to help you protect your information. You can keep your post confidential behind our NDA walls until you specifically authorize a particular user to view it. Thus, a record is maintained of who has seen your post.

But if you’re still not convinced or you are not interested in sharing with our network, our Groups feature provides that extra layer of protection by allowing you to create and share specifically within your own, pre-selected network.

Who is running this operation?top

The IdeaLists was founded by ex-magazine publisher Adam Glickman.

At the age of 25 Adam moved to Tokyo, and once there, co-founded Tokion Magazine. He grew the publication from a 2-color, 56-page zine to a full-color glossy title with offices in New York and Tokyo, a conference series, boutique retail shops, collaborative product lines and a documentary film production arm.

By 2006, Adam understood that new technologies would soon irrevocably change media consumption habits. He sold the Tokion brand in 2006 in order to explore what a new media company—one that could best triangulate marketing, technology and content—might look like. Over the next few years he worked in a broad range of strategic and creative roles, consulting for such companies as Wieden & Kennedy, Nike and BBH.

In 2010 he settled on his vision for a new media company—albeit unexpectedly as a BtoB platform opposed to a consumer facing one—with the launch of The IdeaLists.

This all sounds great. So how do I join?top

The IdeaLists requires a membership. Membership is free. Invites are provided to working communications professionals that have proven portfolios of quality work at a national or international level.
