Getting the Most From Placing a Post at The IdeaLists

by Karyn Campbell on 12.01.11

In a world where messages are conveyed in under 140 characters, it's unnecessary to sweat over crafting a perfect post to the community. We've seen time and again short, succinct posts make matches within hours. And this includes everything from graphic design to broadcast commercial jobs to large interactive productions. Keeping in mind that a brief on our site should serve as a starting point for conversation, we find all that's needed to zero in on top results are these 5 bullet points:

  • 1 Describe the goal you want to achieve. (What is your deliverable and what might success look like?)
  • 2 What is the budget and deadline? It’s okay to say ‘TBD’ or ‘confidential’, but a ballpark estimate always helps filter out irrelevant inquiries.
  • 3 A 1-2 sentence description of your company. (It’s okay to keep this confidential behind our NDA or leave out the company name entirely, but the more you share the more you'll likely get in return.)
  • 4 A detail about the audience you want to reach.

Finally, if you aren’t sure about some of the points above, we recommend showing examples of other work that you consider a success. A picture is worth a thousand words.

And if this still all seems like a hassle, or you aren't ready to share specifics, just click the Powered by IdeaLists option and ask us to write the brief for you.
