Six Simple Tips to Land More Opportunities at The IdeaLists

by Karyn Campbell on 12.01.11

As the number of projects running through IdeaLists continues to grow, your likelihood of finding great, relevant work increases. But it also means you may begin to feel inundated by all the regular updates. So we’re offering six simple tips to land more opportunities, while ensuring your time is well-used.

  • It’s worth adjusting your contact settings so you only receive project notifications that fit your criteria: industry, budget size, location, project-based vs. full-time, etc. This way, you only hear from us when we have something worth listening to.
  • Before responding to a post, make sure your experience and skill-set apply. We encourage industry bridging as it often results in fresher work. But we also work hard to calibrate a system where response to each post is small, targeted and qualified.
  • Share referrals; it's a community after all! If you know someone who would be an amazing match for a project or job, contact us at the address in the post, and we can potentially connect the two parties. We won’t forget a successful referral, and when fitting, we'll award you financially.
  • Be personable yet concise in your communication. The IdeaLists is an action network, not a social network—the more clarity you can provide regarding what you can offer, the better chance at getting a reply.
  • Regardless, of your personal connections, please only make contact through the site's messaging system. Circumventing this can cause breakdown in communications, potentially annoy the client, and put you in our penalty box ;)
  • Keep your profile up-to-date. You never know who might be interested.  Keeping your profile robust and current helps us to help you keep our eye out for future opportunties.

Hope you find these tips useful! Something we forgot? We love feedback, so feel free to drop us a line at support@theidealists.com.
